A standard 20-foot shipping container has a maximum gross weight of approximately 30,480kg (30 tonnes), with a tare (empty) weight of around 2,200kg, giving a maximum payload of approximately 28,000kg. The actual payload capacity varies slightly between manufacturers and grades of container.
